More About Tara Sunne

Tara Sunne, the stage name of Akshi Viswanathan, is a singer-songwriter, arranger, composer, and musician releasing music as an independent artist whilst pursuing her music education career. Sunne always hoped to have a career making music full-time, just as much as she hoped to teach high school chorus full-time. Though she was making music on the side throughout high school and college, she is now beginning both careers full-time. 

Sunne discovered her love for music when taking orchestra and choir in elementary school and started self-teaching piano and guitar soon after. This developed into a passion for composing original melodies, arranging backing vocals, and writing lyrics about her love life and her relationship with family, friends, and herself. Sunne began her music career performing for college students in house shows or university-run concerts, and she played her first official gig in 2023 opening for Swae Lee at UCONNIC, a student-run music festival at the University of Connecticut. 

She began releasing music in 2021, putting out singles that were all self-written and mixed as a physical timeline of her growth as a songwriter and music producer. Her debut single “Pre-Life Crisis” was released right before high school graduation as a project for her senior capstone class. In 2022, she released her debut EP “Ready…Set…” detailing complicated relationships with friends and family members. Her next two singles “Need You More” and “Nothing” are a representation of Sunne’s inner monologue amidst the transition from childhood to adulthood. After her last release “I Know (It’s You)” in 2024, Sunne took a break to finish her undergraduate career, which led to her pursuing a graduate music teaching licensure at Boston University and making the move from Storrs, CT to Boston, MA. 

As Sunne is wrapping up her education, her music career comes to the forefront of her life with monthly duo gigs in Boston, taking music production courses, and growing her media presence. She currently gigs with Carrie Faye in their duo Silver Flower, performs at events with her band Vibe Train, and plays original shows with Tara Sunne + The Band. 

With her newest single “Touch” kickstarting her return to the stage after her break to focus on school, Sunne is working on producing her upcoming singles to share in the latter half of the year. Known for her lush instrumentals and atmospheric backing vocals, she has recently expanded into incorporating folk-inspired guitar and rock-like drums into her tracks, blending multiple genres into a unique style. Tara Sunne fans, or “Sunnies,” can get ready for two more single releases in 2026 and many live performances with her duo and event band.
